On the morning of October 11, Professor Klaus Hubacek, Fellow of the Academy of Social Sciences (UK), Director of the Integrated Research on Energy, Environment and Society (IREES) at the University of Groningen in the Netherlands, and Lead Author of the IPCC Sixth Assessment Report (AR6), was invited to deliver an academic lecture entitled Modeling Global Carbon Inequality along global value chains in Meeting Room 318, Complex Building, China University of Mining and Technology‑Beijing.

Professor Fan Jingli, Deputy Dean of the School of Energy and Mining Engineering, Associate Professor Wang Bing, Party Secretary of the Department of Energy Science and Engineering, together with more than 40 teachers and students from the School of Management, Beijing Wuzi University and other institutions, attended the event for academic exchange. The lecture was chaired by Professor Fan Jingli.

In his lecture, Professor Klaus Hubacek systematically presented the overall analytical framework for research on global carbon inequality. Centering on six major modules‑‑carbon flow accounting methodologies, global carbon inequality, lifestyle‑based and geographical disaggregation, carbon policy instruments, spill‑over effects of the European Green Deal, and the compatibility of poverty‑reduction and carbon‑mitigation targets‑‑he analysed disparities in carbon‑footprint distribution and their socio‑economic driving mechanisms at multiple levels. He also put forward innovative ideas including hybrid accounting approaches, postal‑code‑level carbon‑footprint analysis, and equity assessment of carbon‑pricing mechanisms. The lecture stressed that emission reduction, equity and sustainable development should be coordinated from the perspective of global value chains to achieve synergistic advancement of climate goals and social justice.

Teachers and students present had a lively exchange with Professor Klaus Hubacek on carbon emission accounting, emissions embodied in international trade, just transition and other relevant issues. As part of the "Voice of Mining" academic forum, this event has offered a high‑level international academic exchange platform for faculty and students of the school. It further broadened their academic horizons and promoted interdisciplinary research and collaboration.
