On October 28, the 21st China International Coal & Mining Technology Exchange and Equipment Exhibition grandly opened at the China International Exhibition Center. As the largest and most influential professional event in the coal‑mining sector in China and even across the globe, this exhibition attracted numerous well‑known enterprises, research institutions, experts and scholars worldwide to showcase cutting‑edge technologies and innovative achievements of the coal industry. Led by Pan Weidong, Head of the Department of Intelligent Mining Engineering, and Wu Renlun, Deputy Director of the Department of Mining Science and Engineering, undergraduate students of Mining Engineering and Intelligent Mining Engineering (Class of 2023) together with selected postgraduate representatives from our school visited the exhibition. This served as a vivid "mobile classroom" for practical teaching, enabling students to get first‑hand insights into the latest industry developments. Faculty members from the Department of Intelligent Mining Engineering including Li Chunyuan, Li Lianghui and Song Zhixiang also took part in the activity.

With the theme of "Empowering with New‑quality Productivity, Ushering in an Intelligent Future", the exhibition highlighted the latest scientific and technological achievements and solutions at home and abroad in intelligent coal mine construction, clean and efficient coal utilization, mine safety and emergency management, as well as intelligent manufacturing of mining equipment. Inside the exhibition halls, massive intelligent fully‑mechanized mining equipment, sophisticated mine robots, immersive digital‑twin platforms, and advanced intelligent ventilation and safety monitoring systems vividly depicted the blueprint for modern mines in the future.

During the visit, teachers and students were highly motivated. Targeting their respective specializations, they focused on intelligent mining solutions for varied geological conditions and had in‑depth exchanges with enterprise engineers concerning equipment parameters, application performance and technological innovation. The supervising teachers explained relevant key technical principles and engineering backgrounds on‑site, helping students closely integrate classroom theories with engineering practice and deepen their understanding of knowledge. Many students commented that the exhibition changed their stereotyped perceptions of traditional mining, further strengthened their confidence and passion for the Intelligent Mining Engineering major, and offered fresh inspirations for their future study and scientific research.

This activity constitutes not only a vivid practical professional lesson, but also an important measure for the school to implement the educational philosophy of "promoting practice through learning and enhancing knowledge through practice". By getting up‑close exposure to industry frontiers, students have broadened their horizons, stimulated research interest, and strengthened their professional identity and sense of mission. The school will further deepen the integration of industry and education, cultivate more new‑era mining talents with innovative thinking and engineering capabilities, and contribute "CUMT‑Beijing wisdom and strength" to the high‑quality development of the coal industry and the building of a powerful country through education.
