On May 27, a symposium for student representatives from the School of Energy and Mining Engineering was held in Room 318 of the Comprehensive Building. President Liu Bo attended the meeting and engaged in in-depth discussions with the student representatives to better understand student needs and promote the high-quality development of the university.

At the meeting, student representatives from various majors, grade levels, and academic programs across the Xueyuan Road and Shahe campuses offered their views and suggestions on issues of common concern, such as education and teaching, management and services, academics and research, and personal growth.

Liu Bo listened attentively to the remarks made by student representatives. On behalf of the university’s CPC Committee and administration, he thanked the students for their steadfast trust and full support, as well as for their proactive suggestions that contribute valuable insight and energy to the university's development; he also addressed their points directly on the spot. He emphasized that students are key participants and direct contributors to the university's growth and should engage in its development with a sense of ownership. He noted that their sincere and earnest suggestions are of great importance, and assured them that the university would organize, review, and oversee the implementation of these ideas to ensure that every issue receives a response and every matter is followed through to a resolution.

Liu Bo pointed out that the university has consistently aligned itself with national strategic needs—evolving from the founding mission of "saving the nation through industry" to the new era's mandate of "serving the country through energy." Generations of CUMT members have stepped up with a pioneering spirit, taking initiative and embracing responsibility. He urged students to, first, ground their character in "illustrious virtue" and hold firm to their ideals and convictions. They should bear in mind General Secretary Xi Jinping’s expectations for the youth of the new era, consciously practice core socialist values, emulate the older generation’s spirit of "exceptional endurance and fighting spirit," and cultivate their moral character through academic study and social practice. Second, they should anchor their hearts in the pursuit of "supreme goodness" and cultivate a deep sense of patriotism, integrating personal aspirations into the great journey of national rejuvenation; they should carry forward the spirit of "developing the mining industry to bring forth light" and realize their life’s value by serving the strategy of building a strong energy nation. Third, they should forge their resolve through a "love of learning" and master exceptional skills. They must build a solid foundation in core disciplines, grasp cutting-edge science and technology, and—with the steadfast determination to "endure years of solitude for the sake of true scholarship"—study diligently and scale the heights of scientific and technological innovation. Fourth, they should establish their credibility through "earnest action" and shoulder social responsibilities. They should boldly venture into "uncharted territories," break through "glass ceilings," and head to the front lines of mining operations; by leaving the CUMT mark at the forefront of building a Chinese-style modern energy system, they should use the power of their youth to write a brilliant chapter in the story of serving the nation through energy.
