On the morning of September 17, the School of Energy and Mining Engineering, China University of Mining and Technology‑Beijing (CUMTB) successfully hosted a tripartite international cooperation and exchange meeting between China University of Mining and Technology(Beijing), the University of Pécs in Hungary, and China University of Petroleum (East China). Janos Kovacs, Maria Hamor, Tamas Hamor and Ferenc Fedor from the University of Pécs, together with Professor Hu Qinhong and his delegation from China University of Petroleum (East China), visited and attended the meeting.

Present at the meeting were Zhou Hongwei, Dean of Lixing College; Yang Ying, Director of the Office of International Cooperation and Exchange; Fan Jingli, Deputy Dean of the School of Energy and Mining Engineering; Li Yang, Head of the Department of Resource Science and Engineering; Pan Weidong, Head of the Department of Intelligent Mining Engineering; Zhang Hongwei, Deputy Director of the Department of Energy Science and Engineering; and Deng Xuejie, Deputy Director of the Department of Resource Science and Engineering. The meeting was presided over by Zhou Hongwei.

On behalf of China University of Mining and Technology(Beijing), Zhou Hongwei extended a warm welcome to delegates from the University of Pécs and China University of Petroleum (East China). He delivered a systematic introduction to the university’s development history, discipline development, academic programmes of the school and its research priorities. Yang Ying elaborated on the university’s international exchange and cooperation programmes and outcomes, and voiced the university’s intention to cooperate with the University of Pécs in joint undergraduate‑postgraduate training, collaborative school‑running, and the co‑development of international exchange initiatives. Professor Fan Jingli gave a special presentation on global Carbon Capture, Utilization and Storage (CCUS) policies. She also had in‑depth discussions with the attending delegates concerning the application pathways and relevant policy support for this technology in China and Europe.

Maria Hamor, International Programme Coordinator at the University of Pécs, noted that the two universities enjoy a strong alignment in academic disciplines. She hoped that the two institutions would jointly establish university‑level exchange programmes, explore concrete pathways for joint undergraduate and postgraduate training, and conduct collaborative scientific research drawing on various international cooperation funding projects. Professor Janos Kovacs delivered a presentation entitled Shaping Futures, Building Partnerships, offering a comprehensive overview of the University of Pécs and expressing his willingness to further deepen inter‑university cooperation. Associate Professor Tamas Hamor presented a talk titled NEW Governance of Underground Space‑A PILOT IN HUNGARY, focusing on the latest Hungarian advances in the innovative classification of underground resources, regulatory frameworks, and significance evaluation of resources.

Professor Hu Qinhong from China University of Petroleum (East China) gave a presentation entitled Nano‑Petrophysical Studies for Energy and Resources Geosciences. He shared his research interests and scientific outputs, introduced relevant information about China University of Petroleum (East China), and expressed his anticipation for this cooperation and exchange event.

During the meeting, delegates from the three parties shared information on their respective research focuses and institutional strengths. They held extensive and in‑depth discussions on cutting‑edge hot‑button issues in the field of underground resource exploitation, and conducted preliminary deliberations on the possibility of carrying out international inter‑university cooperation in scientific research and talent development.

This meeting has expanded high‑quality international exchange channels for the university. It lays a foundation for the three universities to broaden cooperation areas and deepen cooperation, facilitates technological innovation and mutual progress in underground resource exploitation, and imparts fresh momentum to fostering international cooperation within the global resource‑exploitation community.
