On the afternoon of June 19, a delegation visited the School for a discussion and exchange. The delegation included Cao Xiaopeng, President of the Exploration and Development Research Institute at Sinopec Shengli Oilfield; Li Zongyang, Manager of the Scientific Research Planning Department; Li Wei, Manager of the Reservoir Evaluation Office; and Zhang Feng, President of the Petroleum Engineering Technology Research Institute. Yang Shengli, Dean of the School, presided over the meeting. Also in attendance were Vice Dean Fan Jingli; Hao Xianjie, Head of the Department of Energy Science and Engineering; Liu Peng, Deputy Head of the department; and Associate Research Fellow Chang Haibin.
On behalf of the School, Yang Shengli extended a warm welcome to Cao Xiaopeng and his delegation. He provided a brief overview of the School’s history, research strengths, key disciplines, faculty, organizational structure, and student progression and employment outcomes. He expressed hope that this meeting would serve as a springboard to strengthen communication and exchange regarding research collaboration, internships, and talent development. He further proposed establishing a regular communication mechanism covering areas such as joint research initiatives, the co-construction of practical teaching bases, and the cultivation of interdisciplinary talent, with the aim of advancing school-enterprise cooperation to greater depths and broader fields.
Cao Xiaopeng and Zhang Feng provided detailed overviews of the development history, business scope, and technical R&D focuses of the Exploration and Development Research Institute and the Petroleum Engineering Technology Research Institute, respectively. They noted that, as the core drivers of technological innovation for the Shengli Oilfield, both institutes have amassed extensive practical engineering experience in areas such as oil and gas extraction and field development. Highly recognizing the innovative research achievements the School has made in fields like coal mining and roadway support, they expressed a clear desire to establish a long-term strategic partnership and pledged continued support for the School’s faculty and students through multifaceted practical resources, including on-site internships and collaborative research projects.
Fan Jingli further outlined the disciplinary layout of the Department of Energy Science and Engineering, highlighting its research focus in frontier areas such as carbon capture, utilization, and storage (CCUS) and unconventional oil and gas reservoirs. She proposed fostering the deep integration of theoretical research and engineering practice through initiatives such as establishing student internship and practical training bases.
This symposium established an efficient platform for aligning the resources of the institution and the enterprise, deepening mutual understanding regarding technological innovation and talent development. Both parties agreed to use this meeting as a starting point to continuously explore new models of school-enterprise cooperation, jointly injecting new momentum into technological innovation within the energy sector and the synergistic development of higher education, thereby facilitating the high-quality transformation of the energy industry in support of the national "dual carbon" goals.
